National Gallery of Australia and Portrait Gallery

Lake Burley Griffin

Located in the center of Canberra, and completed in 1963, the lake is an ornamental body with a length of 11 kilometers and a width, at its widest, of 1.2 kilometers. There are some beautiful places to see as you walk around the lake, including the National Carillion on Aspen Island, with a footbridge lined with lights and Blundell’s cottage. Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House

Old parliament house was built in 1927 as a ‘provisional’ parliament house, as the government made their transition from Melbourne to Canberra. Now it is the museum of Australian democracy and serves as a museum to Australia’s political history. Explore the exhibitions on display as well as the nearly 100-year-old building to learn about and appreciate the history of Australian democracy and where it matured.
